5 myths about working in care

By Care2Communities | January 18, 2023 | Careers

If you’re interested in working in care, you may already have some idea of what working in care looks like or the duties it involves. Perhaps you imagine helping a vulnerable person with personal care, looking after sick people, or maybe even working long hours that go underappreciated.

It may surprise you to know that working in care can be so much more.  In this post, we shed some light on common myths and misconceptions about working in care. Read on to learn more about care jobs in Rushcliffe and whether this rewarding career choice is for you.

1. ‘You must have certain qualifications or experience’

Contrary to what you might think, you don’t need to have a certain set of skills, qualifications or experience to thrive in a caring role. We look for person-centred individuals who have a warm disposition and caring nature. Are you able to build relationships and help others feel at ease? Do you have the natural ability to make others feel safe and comfortable in your presence? Are you able to inspire trust and foster friendships? If so, we think you’ll make a great Wellbeing Assistant. Our Wellbeing Team is made up of people who embody the values of social care and truly care about the physical and mental wellbeing of others.

2. ‘You’re expected to work long, underpaid hours’

While working in care can be challenging, you should always feel supported, appreciated and cared for in the work you do. We value and appreciate our staff because we understand that they are our greatest asset. That’s why we don’t offer zero-hours contracts and ensure that our staff are paid for their whole shift, not just time spent talking to or visiting the people we support. In addition to offering competitive pay up to £12.50p/h, we also pay 45p mileage. Last but not least, flexible working hours are available to accommodate any study, family or personal commitments.

3. ‘The care industry is old-fashioned’

We’re pioneering a new era of care. This means we incorporate technology, making it a core feature of the care we provide. By offering Technology Enabled Care, we’re able to proactively monitor a person’s wellbeing, provide peace of mind to family, improve mental health by combating loneliness, and ensure a faster response in case of emergency. We plan to grow alongside any advances in technology to ensure that we’re providing the highest quality of care to all.

4. ‘People who work in care are underappreciated’

We value people whether they be those we care for, their families, volunteers, our partners, members of the community and, of course, our employees. You can count on us to provide working conditions where you’re recognised and appreciated for your hard work.

5. ‘There’s no room for growth or development’

We empower our team members to be independent and provide advanced training facilities to support career development. The opinions of our Wellbeing Assistants matter to us and we want you to reach your goals – whatever they are. Every member of our collaborative and supportive team has the opportunity to enhance their skills and grow their care toolbox at the state-of-the-art training centre above our office.
