The benefits of checking in

By Care2Communities | December 21, 2022 | Wellbeing

We believe that everyone deserves to feel cared for and supported, no matter their age. Guided by the principles of the Five Ways to Wellbeing, everything we do is centred around creating connection, fostering friendship, reducing isolation and combating loneliness. One of the ways we work towards improving a person’s mental health and emotional wellbeing is by including check-in calls as part of our services.

The importance of connection

Humans are social creatures. As such, building meaningful relationships and feeling connected to others is an important aspect of our emotional wellbeing and mental health. However, we also recognise that social interactions generally decline as we grow older. This is due to a combination of factors including naturally declining social circles, financial limitations and an increase in mobility issues. Studies also show that being part of the community has a positive impact on a person’s wellbeing.

Reducing loneliness one phone call at a time

With loneliness becoming a growing concern amongst older people, we’ve created a holistic homecare service that combines the use of innovative monitoring technology and personal support. Our goal is to reduce digital exclusion, combat isolation and promote social connection to nourish overall wellbeing. Apart from Maple, all of our subscription care packages include a designated number of wellbeing calls per week. Even just a short, regular phone call can reassure the whole family that someone is looking out for their loved one and taking their safety seriously.

Care that works for you

Everyone is different, with unique desires, needs and preferences. For this reason, we offer care on a subscription model so you can choose the necessary amount of support for your loved one. How and when we check up on them is completely up to them. Life can be unpredictable which is why we don’t restrict calls or visiting hours to specific hours. So long as you use them within the allotted period, we’re flexible.

Here are some of the check-in options available in our packages:

1. Check-in calls – We’ll give your loved one a call to check in on how they’re feeling or to remind them to take their medication.

2. Social calls – Ready for a chit-chat? We’ll give your loved one a ring to check in with how they’re doing, ask about their day and lend a listening ear.

3. Social care hours – From helping with personal care, keeping the house tidy, doing the weekly shopping or providing social interaction, we’re here to support your loved one’s wellbeing.

Putting your wellbeing first

As we mentioned earlier, putting your loved one’s health, happiness and wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. By combining assistive technology, the personal touch of Wellbeing Assistants, and support from the local community, we strive to provide the support that truly helps your loved one thrive at home.
